About Ravi Gupta, MD

Ravi Gupta, MD, earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia and completed his internal medicine training and research fellowship at the University of North Carolina and Duke University. He spent 15 years practicing inpatient adult medicine, caring for thousands of patients with chronic illness. Over time, he recognized that true healing—and even disease reversal—was possible only through lifestyle and nutrition.

Driven not just by his patients’ needs but by his own pursuit to lose fat, build muscle, and move beyond “normal” health toward peak performance, he sought evidence-based methods to optimize health and extend both healthspan and lifespan.

This journey led him to functional medicine—a field that embraces the powerful link between environment, lifestyle, and biology. Today, he is dedicated to addressing the root causes of chronic disease and leveraging the principles of functional medicine to redefine what modern healthcare can achieve.

Health is a continuum, not black or white. We help people with chronic disease improve their health and optimize their physique.

7 Keys to Wellness

Environmental Inputs

Our diets, nutritional status, air, water, exercise, trauma, psychosocial factors, and exposure to environmental toxins and radiation can all influence our genes and our overall health. Creating a healthy environment inside and out is our first step to balancing the systems.

Inflammation & Immune Balance

When the immune system is out of balance, inflammation can run rampant - causing a chronic, smoldering fire inside your body that contributes to health issues and weight gain. Managing inflammation is a key aspect to achieving optimized health and wellness.

Hormones and Neurotransmitters

Many people are living out of harmony with our biological rhythms; our hormones and neurotransmitters, which we depend on to keep us in balance, are running out of control. Uncovering reasons for imbalances in these systems is essential.

Gut and Digestive Health

Optimal gut health has become a prominent focus in functional healthcare because the links between chronic illness and an imbalanced microbiome keep growing. Gut health is at the core of optimal wellness and understanding why it breaks down and how to repair it is critically important.

Detoxification

Detoxification is the science of the processes our bodies use to get rid of waste. If waste does not get properly detoxified and builds up, we get sick. Optimized health depends on enhancing our body’s capacity to detoxify and get rid of waste while minimizing our exposure to toxins.

Energy, Mitochondria & Oxidative Stress

Optimizing our mitochondria (energy factories), and reducing oxidative stress (resulting from toxic insults, infections, allergens, stress, and eating poor quality food) is often overlooked in conventional healthcare, yet a vital component to having abundant energy for life.

The Mind/Body & Body/Mind Effect

The body and mind are a dynamic bi-directional system. What impacts one has an enormous impact on the other and the health of your body is directly related to the health of your brain. Nurturing and optimizing this relationship is critical to overall health and wellbeing.

Personalized Approach

The focus of Functional Medicine is on personalized care, promoting health as a positive vitality, beyond just the absence of disease. By listening to each individual and learning your story, we bring you into the discovery process and tailor programs that address your individual unique needs.

Science Based Approach

Functional Medicine involves the process of looking “upstream” to consider the complex web of interactions in your history, physiology, and lifestyle that can lead to illness. The unique genetic makeup of each person is considered, along with both internal (mind, body, and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect total functioning.
